Earth Day tree planting is a NASWI tradition. Every April some good folks from Navy, led by the base commanding officer and the Garry Oak Society, plant trees and help beautify the grounds on base. Our grounds crew and admin volunteers get pitch in for the event.

The Main Street Easter Egg Hunt at Smith Park is a chance for kids to come out and hunt for eggs (the candy kind) in the park, and for local organizations like New Leaf to get in on the egg-hiding fun.

The Whidbey Island Marathon is an island tradition that attracts runners from all over. We're there to pass out water, cheer on the runners, and show off some silly homemade signs.

May

The Whidbey Island Culture Fest (formerly known as Holland Happening) is one of the biggest events of the year in Oak Harbor. A decades-long tradition, it attracts thousands of visitors with a weekend of parades, street vendors, music, and wooden shoes. Every year we take part in the parade, where we can show off a tractor or two, and enjoy the sights and sounds and smells of the weekend-long event.

July

Hydros for Heroes is a volunteer-run event featuring super-fast speedboats zooming around the Oak Harbor marina. The event supports local heroes of disaster and emergency response, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and others who make an extraordinary difference. We're there every year with gators, games, and prizes.

The Downhill Challenge Series is a soapbox car race for kids with disabilities. It is run by the Oak Harbor Sunrise Rotary Club and is supported by individual, business and member donations. New Leaf is always excited to join this event by supplying gators for towing cars and employee volunteers to tow them and cheer on the racers.

Volunteering

Fidalgo St Cleanup - Steve, Brent smaller.jpg

New Leaf is the proud custodian of Fidalgo Avenue in downtown Oak Harbor. Every month we pick up litter along the street as part of the Adopt a Street program, and help keep our little corner of town looking good.
